The young will come to understand that the sun has a finite lifespan and our civilization will be consumed by fire, rendering all our current pursuits meaningless. Alternatively, if we are referring to the suffering of everyday life, it is the meaningless tasks that have no effect on the world around us. In either case, we are powerless to save ourselves from the eternal darkness that awaits each of us.
